Protoype Info From Full Throttle:
During the 18th and 19th centuries, many Germans fleeing oppression and war in their homeland emigrated to Pennsylvania, USA, encouraged by William Penn's promise of land and religious freedom. The "PA DUTCH" as they were to become known, settled mainly in the PA Counties just below the Blue Mountains whose natural scenery was reminiscent of the lands from which they had departed. The area north of the mountains became known as "Coal Country" encompassing the largest Anthracite Coal Fields in North America! Eventually, the coal became of prime importance, leading the area and it's hard-working population into steel production, and other heavy industry. And, of course, Railroads were needed to transport the "Black Diamonds" from the mines and breakers to the factories and home-heating distributors, as well as the products created, to the major cities of the Northeast USA. Two great coaling/freight railroads emerged from this "DUTCH COUNTRY" area. The LEHIGH VALLEY RR, headquartered in Allentown/Bethlehem and the READING RR, from Reading in Berks County. Myriad "PA DUTCHMEN" worked these local railroads lending an ethnic bent.
