This is an Eagle Pass picture design by renowned marquetry artist Jeff Nelson. Jeff currently works out of his Hudson River Inlay studio located in New Windsor, NY. You may have seen him and his work at a craft show. The art of marquetry is the process of inlaying different types of wood to create the image of the object. No two pieces are ever the same, due to the nature of the wood; its varying grain and hue. Many different types of wood were used to make this including dyed wood for the green color. It was cut, glued down, sanded, and coated with lemon oil. It comes with a listing of which woods have been used and the corresponding location in the picture and a COA, Certificate of Authenticity. There is no painting. Incredible detail; even the beak and white tail feathers are separate pieces of wood. The back of the frame has a claw hanger attached for hanging. The frame is made from western alder with a lemon oil stain.
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ARTIST - It all began in1979, as the hobby of three friends working together in a small loft in San Francisco’s Embarcadero section. Positive recognition at art shows and exhibits prompted a move cross-country to New York State and the appointment of a few more apprentices. Now situated in the picturesque Hudson River Valley of New York, HRI is dedicated to excellence, pairing exceptional quality with affordable price. The ancient craft of marquetry utilizes the natural colors and textures of exotic veneers to compose pictures and designs of elegant beauty. The individually cut pieces of fine hardwood veneers are expertly laminated to rigid panels to form complex images. The mirrors, tables and pictures created at Hudson River Inlay are of the highest level of craftsmanship and artistry. By regularly introducing new designs, the artwork continues to be fresh and appealing to the collector. Jeff Nelson, one of the founders of Hudson River Inlay, is the company’s principal designer. Trained at the San Francisco Art Institute, he has been largely responsible for the renaissance that marquetry is enjoying today. Jeff has been featured in numerous articles and books about marquetry, and has received many prestigious awards
