Genuine US Military surplus Enhanced Tactical Load Bearing Vest. Informally known as the LBV 88 due to the year of its introduction. Part of the Individual Integrated Fighting System this unique item represents a halfway point in the US Military's transition from the belt and suspenders method of load bearing in use since the turn of the 20th century, to more modern chest rig style setups. Ten attachment loops allow for attachment to an ALICE belt. Additionally two sewn on plastic D rings on the lumbar panel and two 2.25" webbing sections on the shoulder straps allow the secure attachment of additional equipment such as hydration carriers or small patrol packs.
This vest also features two double and two single 30 round 5.56mm magazine pouches on the vest panels allowing the user to carry 6 magazines on the chest. There are also two hand grenade pouches sewn on near the waist. Each pocket features both velcro and steel snap button closures as well as a pull tab on the front. Breathable nylon mesh vest panels and thick padded shoulder straps make this an exceptionally comfortable piece of kit.
Featuring the iconic woodland camouflage pattern this item represents the peak of cold war era military aesthetics. It is truly an interesting and very useful piece of history to own. I really enjoy my LBV88 although I do suggest removing the grenade pouches if you're using it with a belt as they sit low enough to interfere with some very useful real estate on your belt.
